Peru Accumulates 27 Months of Export Growth: What It Means for Investors
Peru is in the midst of sustained commercial expansion. According to figures released in early September 2026, Peru's exports reached US$ 63.521 billion between January and July, a growth of 33% compared to the same period last year. With this result, Peru has accumulated 27 consecutive months of growth in its foreign sales.
What is driving this growth?
Mining continues to be the primary engine: copper generated US$ 21.607 billion (+43.3%) and gold US$ 16.394 billion (+56.9%), together representing nearly 60% of everything exported by the country. Silver and lead grew 105.7% and zinc 11%. In total, the mining sector generated US$ 46.284 billion, equivalent to 73% of total exports.
But mining is not the only story. The agro-export sector also showed solid signals: blueberries grew 60.8%, grapes 18.2%, and avocados 7.3%, consolidating Peru as one of the most dynamic agricultural suppliers in the region.
A broader business base
One of the most relevant data points for anyone evaluating doing business in Peru is the composition of the exporter universe: 8,305 companies exported this year, 3% more than in 2025, and 66% of them are micro, small, or medium-sized enterprises. This indicates that growth is not concentrated solely in large corporations, but rather a real ecosystem exists where smaller-scale businesses also participate and benefit from international demand.
More diversified markets
China remains Peru's leading export destination with US$ 24.340 billion (+37.5%). However, the most notable growth occurred toward other markets: exports to India increased 151.7% and to Australia 132.9%, showing that Peru is broadening its base of international buyers and reducing its dependence on a single commercial partner.
What this means for the foreign entrepreneur
For anyone considering expanding their business or establishing a company in Peru, these figures are a concrete signal: the country combines macroeconomic stability, growing and diversified international demand, and an environment where businesses of different scales—not just large conglomerates—find real opportunities for growth.
